March is National Nutrition Month! Sponsored by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the National Nutrition Month campaign focuses its attention on helping people develop a healthy lifestyle by making informed food choices and engaging in physical activity.  The campaign theme changes each year and in 2017, the theme is “Put Your Best Fork Forward.” This means we all hold the skills and tools needed to make healthier choices. Virginia Tech Dining Services is hosting a week long event March 20th-23rd to help you celebrate National Nutrition Month and put your best fork forward! The 2nd week of March also includes Salt Awareness Week. Diets high in sodium are linked to a greater risk of developing high blood pressure and stroke. Try partaking in this weeklong movement by eliminating added salt from your diet and educating yourself about high sodium foods. Such foods include processed meats, frozen dinners, soups, canned vegetables, etc. It wouldn’t be March without celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th. Try consuming a diet full of green foods by substituting spinach in your West End salad or adding kale to your Jamba Juice smoothie.
