Ring in the New Year with January!

January:

As the ball drops and the clock strikes midnight, January 1st rings in the start of a new year and a new you. Whatever your New Year’s Resolution is; whether it be walking to class or consuming more fruits and vegetables, use the day to set a SMART goal. A SMART goal is identified as a goal that is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-oriented. Also, be sure to celebrate Healthy Weight Week which takes place the 3rd week of January. Healthy Weight Week is a movement that stresses that health cannot be defined by a specific number.  Being healthy is about eating well-balanced meals, staying active and most importantly, feeling good about yourself. Finally, fill your January with fiber and partake in National Fiber Focus Month. Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that is found in beans, grains, fruits and vegetables. It helps regulate the health of the digestive system and is also linked to satiety and weight control. Fiber digests slowly, therefore, consuming foods rich in fiber will keep your stomach quiet and help you get through long days on campus.
