An apple a day keeps the doctor away rings true during National Apple Month; taking place throughout October. Fall is when apples are in season and the Dining Centers are loaded with Granny Smith and Red Delicious apples. Grabbing an apple on your way to class can have numerous health benefits. Apples are rich in fiber and high in natural sugars which gives your body the energy boost it needs to get through the busy school day. Next, leave your car at home and celebrate National Walk to School Day on October 7th. From some off-campus apartments, a walk to Pamplin or Litton Reeves could clock in at over 1.5 miles. If you have a busy school week, walking to class is a great way to get in your daily physical activity without even realizing you are doing so. Lastly, celebrate Halloween in moderation on October 31st. Every once in awhile it is okay to treat yourself to a piece of candy or two. A fun-size Reese’s cup will satisfy your sweet tooth and prevent you from binging in sweets later on.
